I think I have a theme going here
Here is another one. These flowering Gums are only quite small trees so around here they are used as street trees a fair bit. We probably take them for granted. These pretty ones are mainly native to Western Australia, tomorrow I'll post some more typical Gum tree flowers (like the ones in my backyard). Thank you for all the comments. Chris I have tried the wide aperture, up close shot here. I wish I had a macro lens. I probably should have used my 50mm, as my other lenses have a max of f4 (just looked at the numbers, I zoomed, so max f5.6). I like the curve of the stems at the bottom, but I'm not sure if they are too distracting. Should I crop the bottom half off the pic or leave it as is?

I swear these are the neatest looking flowers! I see what you mean about the stems being a bit distracting, but on the other hand, for those of us who have never seen this particular plant, it's really neat to see the stems, as well as the pods that the flowers emerge from (?). Really cool shot. I like it. I like the color and the DOF too.
Ditto what Lorrie said. They are just the coolest thing. Great shot.
I can't say I have ever seen thses flowers before! I am learning so much ! LOL
Pretty color and great DOF!
These are really cool. I also like the word "gum tree".. LOL For the crop - I like it how you have it, I actually would like to see the left side of the picture more :)
Nice shot. Tough call on the stems. I think my instinct would be to crop them out.
Lovely. Just shouts Aussie...
I personally wouldn't crop.
Patti--These are great!! Just seeing the words "gum tree" remind me of when I was a young girl in Girl Scouts. "Kookaburra sits in the old gum tree, eating all the gumdrops he can see. Laugh, Kookaburra, Laugh..."
Can you hear me singin'? lol I sure hope not because it isn't pretty! :) Anyway, I had never seen any part of a gum tree-til now. Thank you so much for sharing! In fact, I would love to see the whole thing, if you ever shoot it! I like this pic just as it is. I would not crop. I don't find the stems distracting at all. I think they sort of "ground" the shot--letting you know where the flowers come from. KWIM? I think it is beautiful!!
I'm lovin these shots of the "gum" tree. I would like to see what the whole tree looks like with these beautiful blooms on it.
very interesting...never seen anything like it.
thanks for sharing.
what an intersting flower to look at!! you did a great job at composing this shot!
Thanks for the comments. I promise I will post a whole tree by the end of the week.
Hey Jan, I was singing right along with you.
