Croquet and Cricket

iso 200, f 4, ss 1/2000

This afternoon I saw these lovely older ladies playing Croquet. This is the first time I have asked strangers if I could take their photo - they were very obliging.

What do you think of the crop on this one? My DH suggested this crop. In the original I had the whole of the guy in red, but DH thought it he was too distracting (both the colour and he is a bit out of focus) and took the focus off the guy batting. Do you think it works?

Okay, I want everyone to put their HHCC goggles on and tell me what you think, especially about the crops and the PP. Looking at them now my thoughts are that they might be a bit bright and i think I should have lightened their faces. So tell me what you like and don't like. I appreciate and value everyones opinion.

I really like the first photo - it is one of those photos that has a definite story behind it!

I think the crop is perfect! My DH would have said- why did you cut that guy in half! It takes your eye right to the batter? You're right the whites are a little bright-I think you are losing some details in the uniform. The grass and surrounding look really good this bright so could you add a layer mask and dodge out the uniform? I'm not sure how you actually do that but I've seen it done and it works.

Thank you so much Amy and Stacy. Amy I could spend all day taking pics of these ladies. Funny thing is Stacy my DH is usually very anti cutting bits off people. I was really surprised when he suggested this crop. I'll have to give the mask layer a go (or at least try and do it)

I'm not too familiar with sports shots--but the whites do look too bright. I'm also not sure of the crop. Something doesn't look right.

Hey Patti! I like your subject matter...I think the first photo is spot-on. The focus is nice, so is the color and composition. Great!!

I really like the action of the 2nd one, but I do think the whites are blown a little. The crop is ok imo. I think I would like to see it with the guy whole as well as with the red guy completely cut out. I nearly always have someone chopped in half in my sports shots, so ?? I'm honestly not sure what I would like better in this photo. Great job with them! TFS. AND, you've been tagged... See my blog for info. Then you get to tag 6 people... :) *Sorry if you've already been tagged...

I like the first photo and the crop. In the second one, I would prefer seeing the whole guy, knowing that it *is* possible to have him in the picture. I don't think the colors are distracting. Actually, maybe a crop horizontally would work where you have less at the bottom and top?
