Learning Flash

#1. no exposure compensation / no Flash exposure compensation

#2. no exposure compensation / positive Flash exposure compensation

#3. No exposure compensation / negative flash exposure compensation

I have had my flash for 12 months now and I am still clueless. Lucky for me the wonderful Krisztina has set up this group http://twopeasinabucket.kaboose.com/mb.asp?cmd=display&thread_id=2423233 (can you tell I have no idea how to do links). So here are a few of my shots from tonight. They aren't very good, in fact they are pretty bad, but it helped me get a bit of a grip on flash exposure compensation. I think I was too close to the subject and the background to get the best effect. But who knows, by next year I may actually know what I am doing. No CC necessary - I know they are crap.

You know...I think it's great you're learning your flash. My goal this year is to master mine as well, so we'll support eachother.

Good for you for trying to learn your flash. I can't wait to get started on learning mine. Looks like there are several of us in the same boat.

Happy New Year! How are ya doing!!!! What happened to your header - I was so in love with your headers :( I love your Christmas sunset - maybe you could make that into a header... I'm going to attempt picture a day again - but I probably won't be able to keep up. And, as far as your flash - well, I'm still not used to mine, but I'm getting better :) Just figured out how to take it off camera. Unfortunately, I have to do everything manually when its off camera - what kind of trade off is that! Loved your comment on the "crap" hahahaha.. The third picture isn't too bad :) Can't wait to watch the improvements. I will ALWAYS love your landscapes.

don't be so hard on yourself...the last one is quite good. The important thing is to take the "bad photos" in order to learn how to take the "better photos" which will help you hone your skill so eventually you will be taking "fantastic photos".

And the non-flash photos lower down are FANTASTIC....especially the sunset. TFS!

LOL Patti, I have the same goal.

I really like your 3rd try (last picture). The coloring looks really good and the flower is nice and sharp.

I'm also in the process of learning my flash. I've got the "dragging the shutter" technique down pretty well. . . but my results aren't always consitent.
Great job on that third one! :) Keep up the good work!
